Yesterday I talked about getting to know yourself. Today I would like to talk about how you can do this. I have written a list of questions you should ask yourself to help you learn more about who you really are.
It is important to know how you really feel about things. How do you feel about yourself, your life, your family, friends, job? Try not to think about how you should feel or how you expect to feel. You don't have to like the way you feel, just accept it.
Again, don't think about what you should care about, just what you actually do care about. If you can't answer this easily off the top of your head then ask 'do I care about this? that?'.
It's easy to slot yourself into a category of beliefs. I'm a Christian, or I'm a liberal, or I believe in free speech. You need to look a bit deeper than that. Explore the specifics of what you believe and the extent to which you believe it.
This one is pretty straight forward, what are you really interested in? What gets you thinking? What are you passionate about?
Another easy one. What do you enjoy? Who do you get along with? What do you like about yourself?
Don't just count possessions, there are more important things in life like security, friends, fun, learning. Try not to be superficial, what would actually improve you as a person?
There is a negative side to everyone, and you need to learn about yours too. What really gets up your nose? Consider things about yourself as well as the world around you.
Some people give up their whole lives to support a cause they feel strongly about. Others never lift a finger. How far would you go? Where are your limits?
What would you change about yourself? Where will life take you next? Where do you want to be? How can you get there? Think about your future, the things you want to be different and the things you want to remain the same. How can you work towards this?
As you answer each of the questions above, think about your answers and why you chose them. Why do you feel that way, why do you believe that? Asking yourself why will help you to learn even more about yourself. It can be a very difficult question to answer, you probably won't always know why. Still, it helps to ask yourself. It might even help you change your views on some things.
Learning about yourself can be difficult to begin with, but it can also be fun and interesting. The better you know yourself, the better choices you will be able to make in your life. Better choices will in turn lead to a happier you.
Ask yourself questions, meet the real you, and remember to keep smiling :D
